Induscraft — Our Origin
Our story · 25 years
Our Origin.
The founder of Induscraft was never a craftsman. He was something rarer — a man who recognised exceptional craft in others, and refused to let the world not know about it.
Jodhpur has always had extraordinary craftsmen. The city's workshops have shaped wood with a precision and patience that goes back generations — but for most of that history, the people doing the finest work were the last to benefit from it. The craft was local. The reward was modest. The world, largely, didn't know.
In 2000, our founder decided that was a problem worth solving. Not by learning the craft himself — he had the humility to understand that was a lifetime's pursuit already occupied by masters — but by building the bridge between those masters and a market that hadn't yet found them. He started on Baazi, then eBay, at a time when most of India didn't own a personal computer. He was selling handcrafted solid wood furniture online before "e-commerce" was a word most people used in conversation.
That original intention has never changed: get Jodhpur's craft known to the world. Everything else — the channels, the platforms, the scale — has been in service of that one idea.
We believe in quality, without negotiation. Not as a marketing position — as an actual operating principle that sometimes costs us margin and never costs us sleep. We believe in conscious capitalism: that a business can do well and do right at the same time, that the craftsmen whose hands build every piece we sell deserve to be treated as partners, not suppliers.
For a long time, that belief in the work was enough. Word of mouth carried us. Customers came back because the furniture was good, told their friends because the experience was honest, and we grew — quietly, steadily, at the pace of solid things.
The world has started moving at a different pace. We've noticed. And rather than resist it, we are adapting — growing, as if reborn, into a version of Induscraft that carries every lesson from the past twenty-five years and meets this moment without apology.
The craft hasn't changed. The craftsmen are still here, in the same workshops, with the same sheesham and teak and acacia, and the same refusal to rush a joint or skip a finish. What has changed is how we reach you — and how deliberately we intend to earn the trust that word of mouth always gave us for free.
We are a Government Recognised Export House with twenty-five years behind us and, we intend, a hundred more ahead. We are still, at our core, the same bridge our founder built in a storeroom in Jodhpur — between the finest craft this city produces and the homes and spaces around the world that deserve it.
Thank you for 25 years.
Here's to 100 more.
